Today, it's my predictions for the fourth-place finishers in the Big 12 North and South - Missouri and Baylor. Will BU quarterback Robert Griffin endure a sophomore slump that will lead to the Bears' 14th straight losing season, or does Griffin improve and stop the skid? We say Baylor goes bowling...[details]
2007 (Freshman): One of the most gifted receivers ever signed by the Tigers, Maclin was on track to play before a knee injury derailed his freshman season. Figures to push for a starting spot by the time the season opens in 2007.
The Good: An explosive downfield threat with elite deep speed who can consistently outrun defenders at the second level. Showcases good body control and coordination in and out of his routes and is very dangerous with the ball in his hands. Exhibits good suddenness and burst laterally and can consistently separate on all levels of the field. A gifted punt and kick returner. The Bad: Lacks ideal strength for the position and can be bullied at times in press coverage. Is still developing as a route runner; has a tendency to round off his breaks. Needs to show better attention to detail.
Positives: Very versatile - lines up all over the field, is effective carrying the ball and brings great value to the return game. Multi-purpose contributor with playmaking ability every time he touches the ball. Has soft hands. Field fast. Shows top-end burst and acceleration to change gears quickly and elude defenders. Very naturally athletic with fluid movement skills. Tracks the ball well over his shoulder. Great vision and run instincts with the ball in his hands and can create any time he touches the ball. Rare production. Only 20 years old and has a ton of upside. Good work ethic. Negatives: Played in an unsophisticated passing game and did not run a full route tree. Questionable toughness. Not strong or physical and goes down easily on contact. Does not have great lateral agility and change of direction. Does not have a strong stature and durability is a consideration. Summary: A versatile playmaker with big-time return ability, Maclin could contribute immediately in the return game and bring an element of excitement. Has a lot of upside if he can stay healthy. Grade: First-round talent.
