The Good: A former tight end who displays excellent overall athleticism and quickness in pass protection. Has an explosive first step out of his stance and has the feet to consistently mirror defensive ends in space. A long-armed tackle who has the foot speed to reach the corner. Does a great job in the run game getting into the second level and demonstrates the body control to cut down defenders. The Bad: Isn’t used to putting his hand on the ground and consistently lines up in a two-point stance. Is still a bit raw in all aspects of his game and needs to polish his footwork and over-hand technique. A bit thin in the lower half.	Scouting report provided by National Football Post.
Positives: Has a good frame and is still growing into his body. Very good finisher. Excellent athlete with great foot quickness. Efficient pulling and maneuvering in space and can run the field and level linebackers. Has base strength to anchor. Very smart, tough and hardworking and plays hard every down. Has an aggressive playing temperament and flashes some nastiness — seeks to bury defenders. Keeps working to sustain and will ride defenders out of bounds. Good finisher. Very good practice habits and work ethic. Quick learner. Loaded with upside and improved every year. Very tough-minded. Interviewed extremely well at the Combine — impressed scouts with his confidence and focus. Extremely, extremely competitive and is wired not to stop working until he is the best of the best. Very confident and plays with passion. Nasty. Negatives: Has some tightness in his ankles and is not a very natural knee bender — struggles adjusting at the line of scrimmage and is not very fluid breaking down in space. Can be overaggressive lunging. Technique is spotty and will require refining after being asked to vertically set out of a two-point stance at Baylor. Seldom lined up in a three-point stance and rolled off the ball as a run blocker the way he will be asked to do and has not played in a pro-style offense. Tends to rise out of his stance and play a bit upright. Could play with more consistent pad level and leverage. Talks too much trash and can come off as brash. Summary: After showing considerable improvement as a senior, he gained as much momentum as any player in the college postseason with a very solid Combine performance in which he asserted himself as the top offensive tackle in the draft. The converted tight end clearly lacks polish in a spread offense, but in time he easily could turn out to be the cream of the crop because he is so tough, competitive, hard-working and determined. Teams will not be comfortable taking a shot early based on Smith’s tape alone, but they could feel very certain they know exactly what they are getting with his football temperament.
