Notes: Father, Steve, was a six-time Pro Bowl tight end with the Vikings (1982-94). As a true freshman in 2007, Cameron recorded 18 tackles, one for loss and one sack in 13 games. Was arrested for drunken driving and suspended for the '08 season opener against Michigan State. Playing defensive end in the Bears' 3-4 alignment, started 8-of-12 games played and tallied 47-11-4 with one interception and a forced fumble. Opposite Jaguars '10 first-rounder Tyson Alualu in '09, started all 13 games and posted 48-9½-6 with six passes batted down. Playing in defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast's new 3-4 defense in '10, started all 12 games at defensive left end and registered 62-12½-5½ with four passes batted down and three forced fumbles. Returned a fumble 21 yards for a TD against Washington. Team captain. Was a 21-year-old senior.
Positives: Has excellent size and a well-proportioned build with very long arms. Outstanding hand use - has meathooks for hands. Good athletic ability, agility and flexibility to work the edges effectively. Outstanding balance. Can slant, stunt and play in gaps. Hustles and chases. Is instinctive to sniff out and read screens. Strong wrap tackler. Offers versatility to play multiple spots along the line. Has NFL bloodlines. Consistently solid production. Put on a dominant display at the Senior Bowl and continually created mismatch problems playing angles.
Negatives: Not sudden or explosive with initial take-off. Too often gets stuck moving in place - hands and feet do not always work in unison. Can be neutralized in tight quarters and does not consistently disengage or play a big man's game with power. Spins in place. Seems to hesitate and disappear for stretches. Inconsistent pad level - will rise out of his stance and get stalemated. Could stand to get stronger, play with more power and improve anchor strength.
Summary: Very long and athletic, quick-handed big man with excellent movement skills and body control for his size. Possesses intriguing versatility to be a disruptive force inside a "40" front, capable of playing anywhere along the line, and even is an outside candidate to trim down and stand up as a 3-4 outside 'backer. His game is based more on quickness than power and could be very effective if used properly.
