Arizona State coach Dirk Koetter spoke with reporters Monday at his weekly press conference. He provided his thoughts on this week's opponent, Arizona, a Sun Devil injury update, and much more. [details]
The good: Carnahan has great size, bulk, toughness, agility and athleticism. He needs some work as a pass protector, but he can be a dominant drive blocker with his initial pop and hi ability to sustain blocks. He can get a powerful surge at the point of attack. He uses his long arms to force pass rushers wide of the pocket. He also holds up well against strong-side ends who attempt to bull rush him. He shows a nasty disposition and has a desire to succeed.
The bad: Carnahan suffered a season-ending knee injury that required surgery last fall. He also endured thumb and knee injuries earlier in his college career. He can break down poorly in space and has questionable change-of-direction skills.
Outlook: Carnahan is a self-made lineman who has the ability to develop into a starting right tackle. He has a desire to succeed that should allow him to recover from knee surgery. His understanding of angles and positioning should allow him to compete for a starting job within a few seasons. The New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins are interested in him as a strong-side tackle.
