Notes: Also was a state champion weightlifter and lettered in track as a Connecticut prep. Redshirted in 2006. Played eight games in '07, starting six at left guard in place of the injured Andy Kemp. In '08, moved to center and started all 13 games. Strained a pectoral muscle while weightlifting late in '09 fall camp, missed the first two games and did not start against Fresno State, but started the final 10 - eight at left guard and two at center in place of the injured starter. Suffered a sports hernia injury against Michigan and underwent surgery following the season. Made all 13 starts at left guard in '10. Team captain.
Positives: Big, thick-bodied and broad-shouldered. Good strength. Good positional blocker. Is efficient in a phone booth. Surprising lateral agility to work his hips around and seal. Timed better than any other guard in the 20-yard short-shuttle at the Combine, clocking at 4.53 seconds. Has a blue-collar work ethic. Versatile - has played all three interior positions.
Negatives: Not explosive or powerful and does not roll defenders off the line of scrimmage or generate much movement off the ball. Inconsistent fitting on linebackers - can be outquicked and run around. Too slow-handed. Limited recovery speed. Lacks focus and makes mental mistakes. Struggled with speed at the Senior Bowl and lacks the quickness desired at center.
Summary: Big, round-bodied, versatile interior blocker who has drawn comparisons to Mark Tauscher. Possesses eventual starter potential.
