Allen Bradford ran for 212 yards and caught a 47-yard touchdown pass from Matt Barkley in the fourth quarter, and USC wrapped up its first season under NCAA sanctions with a 28-14 victory over UCLA on Saturday night.[details]
Notes: Born to Tongan parents and is the cousin of Chiefs 2010 third-rounder TE Tony Moeaki. Havili amassed 2,652 all-purpose yards (1,500 rushing, 1,000 receiving) with 32 touchdowns as a high school senior. Dealt with recurring shoulder separations and underwent surgery after his junior season. Appeared in USC's first three games and started the fourth (Arizona) as a true freshman in 2006 before suffering a season-ending broken left leg, forcing a redshirt. Made four catches for 24 yards (6-yard average) against Arizona before the injury. Returned to start all 13 games in '07, rushing 21 times for 134 yards (6.4) with two touchdowns and catching 34-248 (7.3) with five touchdowns. In '08, started 11-of-12 games and produced 13-71-0 (5.5) rushing with 24-324-3 (13.5) receiving. Strained his neck in practice leading up to the Arizona State contest, sprained both ankles against Notre Dame (costing him a start against UCLA) and was academically ineligible for the Rose Bowl. Started 10-of-11 games played in '09, totaling 21-138-0 (6.6) on the ground with 22-298-2 (13.5) receiving. Suffered a separated shoulder against Notre Dame and missed two games. Was suspended one practice after breaking the cheekbone of a teammate during a workout in late July '10. Dislocated his left shoulder during fall camp. Started all 13 games in '10 and rushed 26-166-1 (6.4) with 32-396-2 (12.4) receiving. Endured another shoulder separation against Washington. Team captain. Medically excluded from working out, including bench press, at the Combine because of left shoulder.
Positives: Asset as a receiver - tracks over his shoulder and catches naturally outside his frame. Athletic, fluid and agile with good speed for a fullback. Can sidestep tacklers and has some run-after-catch ability. Lined up in the backfield and split out. Experienced, productive four-year starter.
Negatives: Has a soft midsection, does not have an NFL musculature and needs to improve functional strength. Finesse mentality and is not an isolation-lead blocker. Soft, half-hearted blocker - will get in the way, but is not powerful and falls off too many blocks (does not run his feet on contact). Durability and maturity need to be evaluated.
Summary: Finesse West Coast fullback who moves like a running back and has soft hands and natural receiving skills that could make him a factor in the passing game. Does not bring the old-school, sandpaper element desired at the position and has a non-physical football temperament that will turn off some teams.
