Notes: Lightly recruited cornerback-receiver who also played basketball and ran track as a California prep. Appeared in nine games as a true freshman in 2007 (wore jersey No. 38), recording 16 tackles without a pass breakup or interception. Started all 13 games in '08, producing 54 tackles, six pass breakups and four interceptions (three against Hawaii) with five tackles for loss. Playing opposite Jets '10 first-rounder Kyle Wilson for the second season in a row in '09, started all 14 games and totaled 45-3-6 (51-yard TD against TCU in the Fiesta Bowl). Made all 13 starts in '10, tallying 31-7-3 with two tackles for loss and one forced fumble.
Positives: Light on his feet. Breaks on the ball and has good hands to intercept. Good production on the ball - has 13 career interceptions. Aggressive. Willing in run support. Experienced, three-year starter.
Negatives: Lacks ideal height and has short arms. Average foot quickness, agility and hip swivel. Does not transition smoothly. Gives up too many plays and gets beat by marginal receivers. Allows too much cushion in off-man coverage, loses separation and lacks burst to recover. Bites on double moves and does not maintain field leverage. Not a reliable tackler in space.
Summary: Undersized, experienced corner who plays with energy and takes chances to make plays, but shows questionable instincts and judgment. Best chance will come in a cover-2 system that values ball skills and interceptions.
