Notes: Was an All-State kicker as an Oklahoma prep. Took over the placekicking duties midway through the 2007 season, when he converted two-of-four field goals and a long of 28 and all 20 PATs. Also recorded 38 kickoffs for a 64.6-yard average and 11 touchbacks. In '08, connected on all 65 PATs and 15-of-19 field goals with a long of 45 while also handling kickoffs (95-67.4-13). Made all 46 PATs and 13-of-18 FG attempts with a long of 51 in '09 and limited duty on kickoffs 3-62.3-0. Had a spectacular '10 season, winning the Lou Groza Award and Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year after converting 68-of-70 PATs and 27-of-31 FG attempts with a career long of 52 yards. Became the Cowboys' all-time leading scorer with 370 points, breaking Barry Sanders' record. The 27 made field goals also represents a school record. Made 182 consecutive point-after tries before having one blocked at Texas. Also had to handle kickoffs (8-64.4-2) and punts (five for 39.0-yard average with a long of 48 and two dropped inside the 20-yard line) in the Alamo Bowl after Quinn Sharp was ruled academically ineligible.
Positives: Very accurate, including 11-of-13 made field goals beyond 40 yards as a senior. Good leg strength with a smooth, consistent stroke. Good lift - only one kick blocked in his career. Consistent get-off times. Terrific production.
Negatives: Is not a kickoff specialist. Inexperienced in clutch situations. Leg strength is not great - does not drive the ball with carry from distance and could struggle in windy conditions. Plant foot tends to pull him to the left a bit during the follow-through.
Summary: Right-footed, accurate, two-and-a-half-step placekicker who does not have special leg strength but is consistent and accurate and should compete for an NFL job in his first training camp.
