Four years ago, we ranked the top twenty-five Virginia Tech athletes playing professional. The list featured then Denver Broncos receiver Eddie Royal at the top of the list and included anyone from Brandon Flowers to Joe Saunders to Ace Custis. Today, we update the list with plenty of changes. [details]
The Good: Flowers flashed big-time talent in run and pass defense. He has been one of the premier cover men in the ACC since late in his redshirt freshman season. He is a top athlete with adequate size to match up with NFL-caliber receivers. He has very good footwork, instincts and the ball skills to start in any scheme with further development.
The Bad: At the NFL Combine, he ran a poor 4.55 time despite a fast 1.50 time in the first 10 yards. He is similar to DeAngelo Hall in size, athletic ability and in overall development, though not in the vital speed category. He has definite upside potential but needs further development for full-time duty.
