The good: A strong, quick senior tackle, Balmer is a hot prospect thanks to his prototypical NFL tackle package. He has a big-boned frame and good athleticism for an NFL defensive lineman with a nice combination of power, quickness, speed and change of direction skills. His frame has further growth potential to become a fixture on the interior of the 4-3 standard defense. He also projects to end in a 3-4 scheme.
The bad: He was a bit of an underachiever until his senior season. Balmer's questionable motor and basic instincts have been the chief areas of concern that needed to be answered. His response as a senior improved his production significantly to rank him right after the top two tackle prospects.
