Tuesdays With Tiller: Purdue football notes
Safety Brandon Erwin's knee injury, sustained in the final minutes against Iowa Saturday, may be more serious than first thought. Coach Joe Tiller suggested Tuesday that doctors are "planning" on surgery.
To replace him in Purdue's lineup, Tiller freshman Josh McKinley will definitely come out of redshirt to fill in as part of Purdue's five- and six-DB sets.
"I like him," Tiller said of the former high school quarterback. "I think he's a good football player, a good hitter."
Purdue got five sacks Saturday. Tiller, though, said that had a great deal to do with the opponent.
"I thought (quarterback Jake Christensen) held the ball (for a long time), as young quarterbacks will do," Tiller said, "
and if they do that, you have a great chance to get to him.
"I don't think we did anything blitz-wise differently. We just got to him."
