PRACTICE NOTEBOOK: ASU practices in shells

The Appalachian State football team hit the practice field wearing shoulder pads for the first time in camp on Monday afternoon. After taking Sunday off, the Mountaineers found themselves working in intense heat as temperatures nearly reached record highs.

While the players may have not enjoyed mother nature's offering, head coach Jerry Moore welcomed it with open arms.

"We worked two hours and 30 minutes and then ran them," Moore said. "It's a hot day and we need that. Conditioning is so key to us. I love it when it's like this."
