Auburn's first "mini-scrimmage" of preseason practice turned out not be particularly "mini."

And what was expected to be a cool August morning - as if there ever was such a thing in east Alabama - turned out to be even less cool than usual.

AU's defense started out nearly as hot as the weather, stifling the offense for the first two-thirds of Wednesday's scrimmage. But as the plays mounted - 77 in all - and the heat index climbed, the defense started to tire.
